Chelsea are closing in on a new manager according to reports from England. It is thought that the club are close to finalizing the appointment of former England ace Frank Lampard as their new manager.
Lampard had been touted by the local media as the favourite for the vacant managerial position. former manager Maurizio Sarri had left the position at the helm of the club two weeks ago to take charge of Italian side Juventus.
The 61-year-old had experienced a mix season where he didn’t get along with the fans but led the club to the Champions League and Europa League success.
Sources at Chelsea says that Frank Lampard has signed a contract with the club that would see him take over the managerial spot at the club.
Lampard would be returning to the club where he won several trophies during his playing days in what would be an extraordinary story.
The 41-year-old has a huge job to do after the club were hit with a transfer ban and lost the services of star player Eden Hazard.
It is understood that he would be given a free rein next season as the club are unable to make any signings. Lampard would be tasked at making the Champions League and making do with the current set of players at the club while promoting young players.
Lampard enjoyed an incredible debut season for Derby County leading the club to within a whisker of the Premier League promotion. He is regarded as one of the new generation coaches as he favours a high press and attacking football.
From the looks of things, it is only a matter of time before the deal is announced by both clubs and Chelsea fans are excited about the prospects. Lampard holds the most record for the most goals scored in a Blues shirt.
