Chelsea have been handed a twin boost on the injury front ahead of their Champions League final clash with Premier League rivals Manchester City this weekend. The two English teams meet in Portugal on Saturday night to determine who will succeed German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich as European champions.
French midfielder Kantesustained an hamstring problem during the penultimate league game of the just concluded Premier League season. The Chelsea player picked up the problem during the home game with Leicester City last week Tuesday and that made him miss the final league match of the season at Aston Villa on Sunday.Kante helped the Foxes beat Leicester City 2-1 at home as the Blues ended their campaign at Stamford Bridge with victory in the league this season.
On the potential participation of Kante in the Champions League final, Tuchel told the club’s website that the player is on course to make a return against Manchester City and that he’s recovering well from the injury. The German tactician added that he hopes the player don’t suffer any setback before the game.
On his part, Chelsea goalkeeper Mendy sustained a rib injury. The Senegalese international was substituted at half-time of the Villa game at the weekend as a result of the injury. He went off with his team trailing 1-0 at the half-time break. Mendy was replaced by Spanish international KepaArrizabalaga at the start of the second half. On his availability for the Manchester City game, Tuchel said that the Senegalese player will start if he’s fit.
