Chelsea is a major injury blow after the midfielder Cesc Fabregas has been ruled out for around three weeks with a hamstring problem. Manager Jose Mourinho admitted after the 2-1 win over Liverpool that he took a gamble on the fitness of the 27-year-old. Even though this gamble helped him get a win against one of the top teams, Chelsea are likely to be without Fabregas for the home match against West Brom after the international break. Despite the injury, Fabregas said that he is extremely happy to have taken another three points.
The midfielder has become a vital part of this Chelsea team after only returning the club in the summer. He has played in a number of positions for Arsenal and Barcelona in the past, but it has mostly been in an attacking sense. At Chelsea, though, he has been asked to defend as well.
Fabregas is that this is new to him and he is just learning to improve his positioning and other aspects. The former Arsenal man has also featured heavily this season. He has already managed 20 appearances in all competitions while contributing a quite impressive 11 assists and two goals. The win against Liverpool meant that Chelsea went 17 matches without defeat in all competitions.
“I have missed this a lot (playing game after game). In my three years at Barcelona I played a lot, but I was always the first one to be substituted or coming from the bench. I was hardly ever playing 90, after 90, after 90.
I’m playing in a role that I have probably never played before which is more positional and there is more defending than in previous years, but I’m enjoying it. It’s about evolving as a player as well,” said the Spaniard after the win over Liverpool.
