Chelsea boss José Mourinho has revealed that he has not spoken with Fernando Torres, who is reportedly on the verge of leaving the blues for AC Milan. Torres, who was the British transfer record holder before being overtaken by Angel di Maria last week, is reportedly set to join Milan on a two-year loan deal. This would effectively bring an end to face Chelsea career since he has only two years left on his contract. Torres has been a major failure at Chelsea since moving to the club in 2011 for £ 50 million.
Chelsea have tried almost every trick in the book to get the 30-year-old scoring goals for fun once again. This even involved bringing Rafa Benitez, his former manager at Liverpool, to Stamford Bridge amidst a lot of bad reaction from fans. It became quite clear that Torres was not going to be a first choice at Chelsea after they brought in Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid. The £ 32 million signing was clearly going to be the first choice after scoring more than 30 goals in all competitions for the Spanish club.
This turned out to be the case after Torres failed to even make it into the bench for the 2-0 win over Leicester. “He [Torres] hasn’t spoken with me. What we have here, as a club, is that we need three strikers to face the season. He is one of them. I like him as a person and as a player. So if he wants to leave, it’s something he hasn’t said to me at this moment. Until this moment, he’s our player and nothing more than that. If he wants to leave it’s because he wants to try a new life. A new club. Probably a new league,” said Mourinho moments before Chelsea announced the two-year loan agreement with Milan.
